Stalagmites and Stalactites

Daniel stirs in the Epsom salts.

Two weeks ago, we studies stalagmites and stalactites in science using this book.  (By the way, I cannot recommend this science curriculum more highly.  It is excellent with wonderful information written at a child's learning level.)  Building your own stalagmites and stalactites is one of the included science projects, and I thought we could give it a try.  It didn't look too hard or messy.

We started with a thin string, but it didn't work.

So we tried a thicker one, and voila!

Now we have a column!

Have you tried anything like this?  What kinds of fun science experiments have you done?
