While there is nothing magical about a nice thank you note, it does show how much you appreciate the gift you were given. And I have to admit that I tend to look for these notes, especially when I've made something for a friend, because I want to know how much they appreciate the time and effort I put into it (even if they didn't!).
So let me encourage you (and myself at the same time) to take the time and effort to let people know how much we appreciate them and the gifts they have given us.

I grw up writing thank you notes and have continued to this day, and am even teaching my little ones the importance of saying thank you with a note. Well, at this age, a scribble :)
Aurie, I plan to have my children write thank you notes, too. It's such a good habit to have, and it means so much to the receiver.
I was amazed too! I think she may have even written them after the shower, because she emailed me after midnight asking for a few addresses. It put me to shame. I always make sure to write thank-yous, but sometimes it takes me longer than it should.
Laura, me, too! I try to do them, but as you know, sometimes I'm a little later than I should be.
I still try to write thank you notes and am teaching our children to do the same. I have found that it is much easier if we do it as soon as possible after receiving the gift.
Have a nice day!
Tracey, you are so right about doing it as soon as possible. I have found that if I put it off, I keep putting it off until it's just rudely late.
Very good idea. I think a lot of the things that are kind of going out of style and are considered "old fashioned", are the ones that are really neat and should be continued. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
A great gift to give people is a pack of thank-you notes. A lady in my church gave me a big stash of thank-you notes and encouragement notes. I loved such a practical gift and I use them often!
