WIP Wednesday

Remember this doily?  I haven't forgotten about it; I have just been too busy with all of those baby blankets to work on it.  Finally, I pulled it back out yesterday.  It took a few minutes to remind myself how to work with thread again, but it came back pretty quickly.  Unfortunately, the finished size is supposed to be 11 and 1/2 inches, but mine only measures about 8 inches right now.  I only have three more rounds to do, so I don't think it will even make ten inches.  Oops!  Remember to work your gauge swatch, Nikki!  It'll be okay, though.

I have been thinking of crocheting a bigger doily and having it framed for our dining room.  One of the ladies in church has something similar, and I think it looks very nice.  What do you think?

I have also been working on my church wrap.  It is a simple repeating pattern, actually with just one repeated row.  It is great to work on when I want something mindless to do.  I think it is going to turn out much better than "mindless" work would suggest, though.

Do you have a work in progress?  Even if it has nothing to do with yarn, you should head over to the Place of H, and link up!

They both look great, Nikki! I really like the doily. If it makes you feel any better, I don't even have the foggiest idea what a gauge swatch is. :) I've seen some framed doilies too, and I think they're so pretty. I think it would be perfect for your dining room.

Laura, you make a gauge swatch to know what size crochet hook to use. The pattern tells you what size is ideal, but some people crochet loosely (and need to use a smaller hook) while some people crochet tightly (and need a larger hook). Really, it's not so important on things like this doily or blankets, but it can mean the difference in sizes when you make clothes. You'd hate to think you're making a medium and end up with a small.

I love those framed doilies. In the South (not sure where you're from) people get their last name crocheted in them, and display them proudly.

A framed doily sounds pretty to me, though I'm not sure I've ever seen one done that way.

I was thinking I should take up a cross stitch project. I used to do that as a girl, but it's been a long time since I've done one. It's a little hard on my neck, but I could do it just a few times a week maybe.

Mykidsmom, you should do that! I used to cross-stitch, and I love having things up that I made.

Great job! I love the doily. My Mom has one framed, that has our last name in the middle of it. Blessings!

Angela and Dustin have a framed doily with their last name crocheted in it. It's beautiful...

Dayna -- that's just what I was about to say! We got it as a wedding present and it's hanging above our bed. It's actually the only "art" in our bedroom.
