My eyes are doing better today. I really can't tell I have blepharitis except for all the pus that was in my eyes yesterday morning. (I hope I didn't just gross you out.) My eyes don't itch or water (except from the allergies) or hurt. I hate wearing my glasses, though.
We went to my parents' house after nap time yesterday, and we had a fun time visiting with my mom while Sarah Beth played on the slides and Daniel played in the dirt. Meanwhile, her washing machine was doing what it does best with my load of clothes. Of course, here at home, I have a mountain of laundry that need to be done. As soon as my new washer gets here, it will have to show me how well it can wash clothes. We bought one of the new front loading ones, and I am very upset that I have to buy special detergent for it. It is so much more expensive. And I have about five bottle of detergent I cannot use anymore. Anyone want it?
Instead of cleaning bathrooms yesterday, I baked. While Daniel was upstairs in his room during his morning quiet time, I baked strawberry bread and strawberry muffins. I doubled both recipes so I have some stashed away in freezer. Yummy!! Today, I will clean bathrooms.
Daniel is such a sweet boy, but he can be a handful which I guess is true about most boys. When he is awake, you'd better have him in your line of sight or he will get into something that he shouldn't. It wears me out! My mom suggested that I put him in his room for a little while everyday to give me some time to get a few things done. I started last week, and it works great! I baby proofed his room which wasn't hard since he only has a crib and dresser in it. There are lots of toys in Daniel's room, and I open the blinds for him because he loves to look out the window. Then I put up the baby gate and leave. He cries, and it's so very sad, and I always rethink my decision. But I set my will and keep walking. He usually stops before I get to the stairs. Then he plays happily until I go to get him, about thirty minutes later. It's very nice. I am amazed at how much I can accomplish in half an hour without having to chase Daniel around. How do you get things done with little ones underfoot?

Why in the world would they make a washer that requires special detergent? That's crazy! I'm sorry you're going to have to spend more money on that. So what would happen if you used normal detergent?
What kind of detergent do you have left over that you can't use? I'd be willing to buy it from you, depending on how much you want for it, of course. :)
You don't have to apologize to us....life tends to get the best of us all sometimes.
I am glad your eyes are doing better today! I hate my glasses too......except I cannot wear contacts at all anymore (due to dry eyes.....severe........they actually classify mine as a medical condition). So, for now I am stuck with them.
I'm with Laura......that is crazy! How much does the new detergent cost? I know you'll be glad to get your laundry caught up.
The strawberry bread is so good! I think I might bake some and put in the freezer. We have company coming in from N.C. Easter weekend. Do you think it would freeze well?
Boys will be boys! Our boys are the same way and have been since they were mobile. Look out Nikki! LOL! Just kidding. IT hasn't changed for them though. They are always into something and on the go!
Our boys scale their baby gates and have since they were about 18 months old, but I use them as a safety feature......meaning at least I can hear them when they get out of their rooms! ;)
When the boys were little we used a Super Yard from Babies R Us and it was great, but now........well....their rooms are the only option.
If they ared getting to be too much tey go to their rooms in the am for 30 minutes of quiet time. Sometimes I put in a dvd. Barney usually.
In the afternoons we have nap/quiet time. Mason sleeps the entire 2 hours. Lil' John sleep about an hour or a little more and then he stays in his room and plays QUIETLY". (They have separate rooms).
You are doing the right thing....that is the only way I can get things done too!
Sorry to hijack your blog and take over the comments.......
Have a great Tuesday and Blessings!
I think our rain is headed your way......
I hope your eyes clear up quickly. The last time mine got an infection, I discovered one of the lense in my glasses was missing... not good. I hate having to stumble around half-blind. And the transition back to glasses is always hard for me too. Guess I'm just too used to contacts.
Wow, special soap for a front-loading washer? I didn't know that. What brand do you have to use for it?
Oh my, between you and Marva I am totally remembering when my boys were little. They were 3 and 1.5 years and into everything!! It is hectic and crazy, in a different way than when they're older (which is still hectic and crazy at times, lol). Putting him in his room for a small amount of time is great for you, but also good for him. He'll know how to entertain himself when he doesn't constantly have a playmate around.
Laura, if I use regular detergent, there will be too many suds which can damage the washer. I bought Tide last night at the grocery store, and it was on sale for $10.88 for 64 loads. That is a whole lot more than I am used to paying which is about 7-8 cents per load. Ugh! You are welcome to my detergent. I think I have about six bottles of Arm and Hammer and some cheap stuff from Walgreens. Next time you come over, see if you want it. I'll give it to you cheap because otherwise I will just donate it.
Marva, the bread freezes great. Something happened to the batch I made yesterday, and the loaves wanted to fall apart when I put them in the plastic bags. Maybe it was because I used fresh/frozen strawberries instead of fresh or store bought frozen. I don't know. Usually, that doesn't happen.
Mykidsmom, that is one consequence of letting Daniel play by himself in his room -- now he is more willing to play by himself other times. It's very nice.
My mother told me that when we were children, women used playpens so they could get things done. Why does our generation feel guilty about not having our children underfoot? Or is it just me. It seems to be better for everyone when my children have some time to themselves while I do, too.
Oh my goodness, you've had a time of it!
The idea of "quiet time" or "alone time" or whatever you wanna call it lol, that's a great one! A common thread of all the blogs I read from Mothers with many children includes enforcing some sort of time where all the children are required to stay in one area/play quietly/read in their room/take a nap. Cole is only 4 months, but I know the time is coming when he'll be all over the place!
On the front loader and detergent, most detergents are actually o.k. to use - you just have to use much less, sometimes 1/2 or 1/4 scoop instead of the full scoop. At least, that's what I've read - in fact, many detergents I looked at have that right on the bottle "for HE users, use 1/2 scoop" or something like that. Of course, I also use a more natural detergent (Country Save) that doesn't suds as much, too. Anyways, just wanted to mention that in case the detergent you are using maybe says on the label that it can be used with HE washers.
I know, that stuff is expensive!! I sure hope the lady renting our apartment is using the right stuff!! I put notes all over my new washer there.I loved the front loader for the few months I got to enjoy it. It really gets clothes clean and it gets a lot of water out so they don't take as long to dry. I think you will enjoy it a lot. I think I got a deal on it at target. That was 2 years ago now! Wow, how time flies!! I wish they would make those to take the regular detergent.
Amanda, I will check. Thanks for suggesting that.
Ivy, I can't wait to start using mine! Of course, I've got a mountain of laundry so I really need it to get here. Tomorrow!!
