Tips and Advice

There are a few things that I do to make my life easier, and I thought I would share them with you in case you might find them helpful, too.  I also have a couple of things that I could use some help with.  If you have anything to share, I would appreciate it.

I like to eat a nice, hot, freshly prepared breakfast.  It is so much better than a bowl of cold cereal, don't you agree?  In order to save time, I prepare pancake mix ahead of time in little baggies.  All I have to do in the morning is add some milk, oil, and an egg.  Best of all, my mix makes enough for two days for Sarah Beth and me.

When I started finding recipes on the internet, I needed a place to keep them all.  I bought this notebook, and all I need to do is punch holes in the print out and place it in the notebook.  I do keep a table of contents list in the front of each section.  I just taped a blank piece of paper to the folder and write on it when I add a recipe.

Right after Sarah Beth was born, and I was no longer working full-time, I discovered there were lots of things I needed to do everyday, but I couldn't remember to do them.  (Does pregnancy kill your brain cells like it does mine?)  I developed my own "daytimer" because none of the commercially available ones fit my needs.  Besides, it was a lot cheaper.  I just use a spiral notebook and write in the days of the week.  I also added a section for errands that I need to run, groceries, notes, and a Wal-Mart (or Target) list.  (I do not go to either place every week, so I need to keep track of what I need to pick up when I do go.)  I have used this system for two and a half years now, and it works great for me.

Now for the help I need.  Most of Daniel's bibs are dingy and dirty-looking.  It's not from the food he eats but all the drool he produces.  (I pre-treat the food.)  Do you have any recommendations for whitening them back up?  I have tried boiling them in vinegar and soaking them in Oxyclean overnight.  I also need a good facial moisturizer.  I haven't been using one, but I know that I need to.  I just hate to shell out big bucks for something that I won't like.  Do you have a favorite that I might like?

I hope that you find my tips useful, and I hope that you have some help for me!

Hi Nikki! Let me start at the bottom......

I use Cetaphil moisturizer. It is for all skin types and my dermatologist recommends it. I have used it since the boys were born and love it. It is kind of expensive but lasts forever. It does not take much and is not oily at all. I usually get it at Wal-Mart. I do not recommend the generic. I have tried them from Wal-Mart, CVS and Target. They each seem different from the original.

On the bibs I have no idea. We went throught the same with white socks. i know that is weird, but one of the twins chewed on his socks.....constantly! One thing that did help was a stain remover found at Wal-Mart, in the baby section. the bottle was pink and white. I am sorry that I do not remember the name of it.

The notebook is a great idea. I also like to find recipes on the net, but have a hard time remembering where they are and do not want to bookmark so many.

We use lots of mixes here too. It is so handy. The boys are usually starving when they get up and some mornings they actually prefer cereal with milk but if i can get them to wait I do.

I hope this helps some, keep us posted!

Blessings!

Oh, I forgot to add....I lost double the brain cells with the boys. I am so forgetful since I was pregnant with them, but what a blessing indeed! ;)

I can't remember the name (and I'm out of it right now) but there is an awesome stain remover that costs about $4 at the store, but is well worth it for the clothing it has saved me. For some reason not too many stores carry it, but I think Walmart does. I'll try to get the name to you tommorrow.

I like milk-based moisturizers because they make my face feel so soft. You're right that the good ones are SO expensive. But like Marva said, they last for a while. I'm actually thinking of giving her recommendation a try because our cold is drying out my skin so much. I change my brand a lot because I buy it from a local discount store. They have some great name brands. But half-price of $20 (oil of Olay) is still a lot of money.

The more kids you have, the more brain cells you lose; so do NOT have 10 kids if you still want to be funtional, lol. Just joking of course:)

I started putting my recipes in a binder because I saw yours one day at your house! :) I put mine in plastic sleeves though, since I'm somewhat of a messy cook. That way if I spill something (which I'm bound to do) I can just wipe it off.

I definitely prefer a fresh, hot breakfast, but the cooking and cleanup just takes so much time. Maybe it's the number I'm cooking for? Or maybe I'm slow? I don't know. I should work at getting faster though, because I agree that it's better than cold cereal!

I'm afraid I can't be of any help. When our bibs get nasty I just pitch them. I try to buy ones that are colored and don't show stains very well, but they all get pretty gross after a while. Bibs are expensive too! I've been able to find some decent ones at the consignment sales for cheap, but if that dumb law goes through that may be out the window!

Such good ideas! I should try the pancake mix one so I'll cook in the morning more often. :o) The boys eat cold cereal most days because they love it, but it's not very cost effective.

I can't remember what I did about stains on bibs, but for stains now (and with boys there are LOTS!) I use the Spray and Wash stick from Wal-Mart. I like it because I can put it on a stain when I see one and then leave it on until I wash it later. As for moisturizer, I don't use one either....maybe that's something that I should use....

Hi, I have always visited and read your blog through Ivy's but never left a comment. I like your idea for the note book. I do forget alot of errands and then frustratingly enough I remember once I get home!!

Stains of drool are hard to get off but here in Malta we have this 'omino bianco smacchia facile' it is an italian produce and I love it I use it with all colours and it removes 99% of all the stains.

Wish you a good sunday :)
