I Need a Favor

I don't know if you have seen this or not, but I wanted to bring it to your attention, in case you have not.  A new law is going into effect February 10 which will affect the sales of all things  homemade and used for children.  Congress has passed the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act which mandates that all things sold for children be tested for lead.  That idea sounds good on the surface, doesn't it?  However, it will affect everything sold for children on etsy and at consignment stores because it will all have to be tested by a third party.  That testing will be cost prohibitive, so these people will stop making things and consigment stores will go out of business.  Since I buy most of my children's clothes at consignment sales, I will no longer be able to do that.  I don't sell anything that I crochet, but I would like to at some point, so again I am directly affected.

Here comes the favor part:  would you take a few minutes today to write your Congressmen and ask them to rethink this law.  If you have ever or will ever buy used clothing for your children, this law affects you, too.  I appreciate your willingness to help.

Here is a website you can access for more (and better) information.

Wow, I'm really surprised they could pass such a law. How about garage sales and thrift stores? I realize it's limited to kids things, but it's usually the people with kids who need to stretch their budget in this way.

It's interesting that most the recalls we hear about for lead are recent things put out by big-name toy distributors. I'd like to see their proof for the need to pass this law. Guess I'll have to check the link:)

Hey Nik-
I enjoyed visiting last week. Thanks for letting me ramble on. Kind of like the old days...

I am starting on one of my newly recommended books tonight. Looking forward to some escapism. Let me know when you join the FB ranks.

Erin, I really enjoyed our visit, too, and I hope we can do it again sometime soon. If you rambled on, so did I! We need to do that just to reconnect. But what do you mean by FB? I cannot figure it out.

I didn't know this included handmade things and etsy and that sort of thing. How ridiculous! I didn't even think about the consignment sales either. If this goes through I'm going to have to learn how to sew quick!
