We found out this week that John's brother is getting married in two weeks on Valentine's Day. It is Greg's third marriage which explains the short notice. The trip takes us twelve hours, so we need some things to keep the children entertained. Do you have any suggestions? John ordered a portable DVD player last night, but I need to get some DVD's. Are there any that you recommend? Thankfully, Daniel turns one on the 12th, and we leave on the 13th, so he will be forward facing. I appreciate any help you might be able to give. This is what blogging friends are for, isn't it?

You're more than welcome to borrow any DVDs that we have! We've got most of the Baby Einsteins. We also have some Bible songs DVDs, which I think are rather annoying, but the children like them and they beat screaming!
Last time we drove to Kansas I went to the Dollar Tree and bought some toys and books. I kept them in a bag and pulled one out occasionally, which really helped. Most of the stuff was junk and got thrown away once we got home (if not before!), but it was all cheap and it was new and interesting to the children.
Thanks, Laura. I will definitely borrow your DVD's! And that is a great idea about going to the dollar store. At least, those toys would keep Sarah Beth happy, although I bet I can find some for Daniel, too!
Graeme watched Baby Einsteins the whole way to Virginia :-)
The Curious George DVDs are fun - Graeme got one from my parents for Christmas.
I like Laura's idea!
Hi Nikki! I recommend Barney too......annoying, but it has a lot of learning in it and the songs are great for the kiddos.
Email me a price for the doliey....I have no clue.....I have never purchased one. Please!!!
Thanks and Blessings!

Hello!! Oh fun!! I heard dum dum suckers are really good for serious binds. I have some suckers planned for our plane ride if I need them to be quiet for 10-15 min. It is amazing how they will sit still to eat those. But I don't know how that would work in the car. I have to watch Iza so that she doesn't bite them. I don't want her to choke.
Iza loves this little pink $20.00 v-tech laptop that I got her for Christmas. She will sit for a long time and play the games and push the buttons. I think I will take that for her plane toy this time.
I can't believe Daniel will be 1 in just a few weeks. Unreal!
I hope you have a great trip!!
Hugs!

My suggestion -- VEGGIE TALES. Kids love it, and it's definitely bearable (if not fun!) for adults.
Hi, I'm Angelas mother-in-law, Maybe check out the library and see if they have some kids story on CD. Sometimes the story tellers use different voices for the characters which can be fun to listen to and they can use their imagination too. Have fun! :)
Somehow I missed this post Nikki, it must not have showed up on my sidebar. Everyone here has such good suggestions, that you don't really need my imput anyway:)
My kids loved the Winnie the Pooh movies when they were little. And I know the library usually has older movies like that, if it's a bigger library. Those portable dvd players are SO nice for long trips. We bought one tree years ago, and we're still using it.
Nikki - I just came across this post with links to a few other great suggestions for traveling w/ little ones!
