Astigmatism

It seems that being pregnant gives me a slight astigmatism. When I went to the opthamologist three weeks after Sarah Beth was born, they discovered it. However, when I went back for a check-up when Sarah Beth was weaned, it was gone. I was curious as to whether it had come back with Daniel. Yes, it did. I had an appointment a couple of weeks ago when he was ten weeks old, and they found it again. I know that the hormones of pregnancy can cause changes to the eye, but I didn't think it would happen to me. That explains why it is harder for me to read things both up close and far away. Have you heard of anything like this?

I had a friend growing up who had this, and now my daughter has the same thing. She hasn't been diagnosed with it, so I am kindof quessing on that. And there are probably differents types as well. Her's shows itself when she is tired, her right eye will go inward, somewhat resembling eyes crossing but with only one eye doing it. I don't know if it actually affects her vision, I haven't noticed anything yet, but this is a good reminder to have her vision checked for the first time anyway. And it only seems to happen when she's getting a little worn out.

Have a great day :)

I hadn't heard of this until you told me about it, but I have heard of some other strange pregnancy-induced things...like carpal tunnel (or however you spell that!). It's funny what babies can do to you!

That is strange, but pregnancy can do all kinds of weird things to your body! ;)

I've had slight astigmatism since I was a kid, but it was never bad enough for me to fail any vision tests until after Tyson was born. Now I wear contacts.

I am almost 12 weeks into my second pregnancy, and I just went for an annual checkup. I was told my astigmatism is gone and my eyesight even improved a bit. I got new contact lenses without astigmatism, and now it seems that severe headaches I've had for the last few weeks are disappearing!
I wish someone told me about possible eyesight changes. I would not have known this until I googled today!

My wife told me that she has read in some fora that pregnancy does cause astigmatism in some cases. It must be the hormones, don't you think? Anyway, I think it would be best to stop guessing and just ask our optometrists. My wife's eye doctor in Indianapolis, Indiana has had her through her pregnancies, so I think he might have some answers.

I'm 16 weeks pregnant and I was diagnosed with astigmatism last sunday, and got my glasses today. I am not sure if it is a result of my pregnancy because it started before I was pregnant. So, i still get my glasses.
